Brazil, Roll Up Your Sleeve to Defeat Alckmin and the US Empire PDF Print E-mail
Written by João Pedro Stédile
Tuesday, 17 October 2006 20:00

Brazilian presidential candidate Geraldo AlckminWe the social movements must mobilize, roll up our sleeves and go to the streets to defeat Alckmin's candidature. From 1990 to 2002, the dominant classes implemented a disastrous neo-liberal program for the economy and the people. They handed in our best state and privately owned companies, to the financial and international capital.

Dilapidated public services. Public debt increased disgracefully, and the government started to use 30% of the federal budget to pay interests. People, companies and the government started to pay the highest interest rates in the world.

The result: the economy did not grow, and there was a greater wealth concentration. The people were left with poverty, more inequality and the highest unemployment in history. Feeling these problems in the flesh, the people voted against neoliberalism in 2002, and elected President Lula.

In the last four years, there was a coalition government, as Minister Tarso Genro says, and the forces of capital continued influencing to maintain neoliberal policies. On the other hand, the forces from the left managed to advance in foreign policies, in the defense of state companies and in some social areas, such as public education and the minimum wage.

We the social movements have criticized the economic policies. The MST has manifested and struggled against the morose process of the agrarian reform, the priority given to the agribusiness (which, in fact, voted against the government) and the non-compliance with the national plan for the agrarian reform.

We understand that the political context of this period has been adverse for popular forces, due to the absence of mass protests and the stagnation of the great majority of trade unions and movements. Some became comfortable or had their ideological directions co-opted.

Others were massacred by the neoliberal offensive which eliminated several sectors of the working class. There is a reflux of the mass movement, which has influenced decisively the current correlation of power.

The time came for the 2006 elections. We defended the need to use the campaign to debate a new popular project for the country. Unfortunately, opportunistic and marketing views prevailed and the repetition of spurious methods, with the abusive use of money, buying canvassers etc. It was all extracted from companies interested in government favors. The result was a campaign without enthusiasm, without militancy and the interest of the people.

When it all seemed to have been agreed upon, and the results, predicted, in the last week, as a consequence of several serious mistakes in Lula's campaign, the right finds reasons to unite around Alckmin (in the same way as it happened with Collor, in 1989).

They went for the attack, spitefully using their media, and managed to take the election to the second turn. The same happened in several states, where right wing candidates managed to get to the second turn of the election.

But, as everything else in life, there are contradictions. The unity of the right around Alckmin will provoke a debate of ideas and projects. The campaign will clarify the class interests behind each candidate.

Alckmin represents the interests of the financial capital, transnational corporations, Bush administration, Brazilian bourgeoisie and agribusiness farmers, which are anxious to take the reins of the government.

Everyday in the paper they defend the need to continue privatization - Petrobras, Post Office, roads, banks and state companies. They want labor, tax and welfare reforms to amplify their profits.

They propose the payment of interests within the Constitution, through an ambitious zero deficit plan. They bring back FTAA as a need and doing that, subordinate even more our economy and the country to the interests of the empire.

And if the poor dare to fight, they will call the "bush dogs" and will offer police and jail. Therefore, we the social movements and all militants must mobilize, roll up our sleeves and go to the streets to defeat Alckmin's candidature and their class interests.

We cannot hesitate. We will transform the campaign into a debate for projects and ideas. If Alckmin wins it would be a very serious defeat for Brazilian people.

In the next term of government Lula in office, we will continue mobilized to defeat neoliberal policies and to debate in society a new project for the country.

Brazil needs to find its course. It needs a project that will have as priority of the State and its policies the solution of the main problems of the people, such as unemployment, education, agrarian reform, housing and wealth distribution, for all.

There are no social changes without the participation of the people, without popular mobilization.

João Pedro Stédile, 52, economist, it is a member of the national coordination of the MST (Movement of Landless Rural Workers) and Via Campesina Brazil.

Economist????? "Movement of Landless Rural Workers" ??

No Land? No Money? U.S Threat? Privatization? = All of Brazils problems...

Surely an Uneducated President with a corrupt Government can solve all
our problems! Let this government own all the industries surely they can
manage it better than the private sector?
Better to be more like N. Korea at least they can afford Nuclear weapons
to fight against the BUSH threat..
We need a great leader, close our borders from those who are raping our economy!
Give me a break!! It is an internal problem, not an external problem!
Quit blaming others and get off your fat asses with your fat Government retirement plans and do some work, give some land to the landless and train them
to work for Petrobras etc.
No wonder the landless are landless with economist like this guiding this country!
Where did you learn economy anyway from Chavez?

Alckmin represents the interests of the financial capital, transnational corporations, Bush administration, Brazilian BOURGEISIE and agribusiness farmers, which are anxious to take the reins of the government.
BOURGEISIE? – people still actually use this word in the 21st century?

Can we finally drop the manifestos and bulls**t? Lula wants to keep the country IGNORANT and poor, and has repeatedly placed a wedge between the haves and have-nots. It is not about redistributing ONE FINATE source of income Mr. President; it is about the creation of new sources of income! The left simply doesn’t get it.

Alckmim, on the other hand, wants to see a more educated and more informed Brazilian population so that the country can move beyond selling what “God dropped at your door” to actually DEVELOPING products that the world’s markets want.

It is not the big bad BOURGEISIE you need to fear João, but your own insignificance in this new modern world.

The world will take you serious anymore if you come to the bargaining table with a banana in one hand and a copy of “Das Kapital” in the other. Brazil needs to wake up from this stagnant agricultural coma, shake it’s victim mentality, and begin educating its population so that the country can finally enter this new millennium with a sense of importance and with a sense of purpose.

BUT, Lula is holding Brazil back. In his view it is OK to be stupid. “Look at me, I didn’t even go to University and now I am president of the republic”. Enough already you buffoon. We KNOW you are not educated. His answer for the poor is to throw rice and beans at them (bolsa Familia). “Give a man a fish” set off any synapses?

A vote in Lula is a vote accepting corruption. It is a vote accepting that Brazil will always remain the sleeping giant. It is a vote accepting defeat, because we have already achieved our best. A vote for Lula signifies that there is no other option than incompetence. Is this the Brazil you want? Not me. If Geraldo fails, we’ll toss him out too in 4 years, but at least we tried something different. Voting for Lula means everything is JUST FINE the way it is.

Place no faith into the ramblings of retired leftist hippies, they have no relevance in this new world.

Agree 100%. Must cut dependence on the "Evil Empire" (because, they WILLgo down, and we shouldn't be with them at the time they do). All of those that don't see or refuse to see what the Government has done to try and rectify the huge injustice done to the poor, have clearly never experienced poverty. Enough of silence.... Poor must get up and fight for a just society, and Alckmin certainly is not offering that.

With whom Brazil has the 2 greatest trade surpluses ? With the ones they criticize the most...USA, EU and Japan !
With whose money did Brazil develop, even during the last 4 years ? From the money they critize the most...USA, EU and Japan !
With whose technology did Brazil develop ? From the countries they critize the most....USA, EU and Japan !

ALL Brazilian car manufacturers, without exception, are.......foreigners ! Creating hundreds of thousands direct and indirect jobs....in Brazil ! Same for computers, IT, drugs, GM seeds, just to name a few !

All this also created tens of billions of US$ direct and indirect taxes...for your government(s) !

Funny.....so funnny !

Doesnt the MST remember how critical they have been against Lula when at the end of last year (and during all his mandate) his government said they were on track for their promise to settle the 400'000 families and that the MST said time and time again that they were betrayed because FAR LESS than half were settled.....based on the MST figures ??????
Doesnt the MST remember that the goverment and INCRA PROMISED to deliver by the end of January 2006, the list with all the names of families that were settled ? And the MST then said they would ask NGO's and lawyers to audit that list ? And that such a list was never provided....despite the promises ?????
Just read and re-read articles published in this same site...during all the Lula mandate.
Doesnt the MST remember why they entered illegally the Congress and smashed it, and all the marches, road blockades, and demonstrations in Brasilia ?
During the whole first mandate of Lula, the MST did not understand why he is not delivering his promises and at election time, the MST suddently understands !

Funny....sooooo Funnny !

The only certainty is that ALL Brazilians, from left to right, HAVE NO MEMORY AT ALL......ON PURPOSE OBVIOUSLY !!!!!

Get my in-laws land back, you dirtbag!
written by REDNECK, October 18, 2006
My inlaws have turned their back on Brazil because of your band of organized thieves. They worked 10 years to get a modest piece of land, only to have it overrun and be told by the Mayor's office to be glad you own SOME land. Brazil is a worthless nation exactly because your ilk exists! To gain further insight about what kind of nation these Stalinists are bringing about, read the wisdom from a great EX-Brazilian Olavo de Carvalho at www.olavodecarvalho.org and read his book "O Imbecil Coletivo".

Expand your reach!
written by REDNECK, October 18, 2006
Why stop with land? Why not set up a carjackers union? You could call it Movimento Sem Carro. Or maybe a pickpockets and bankrobbers union? You could call it "Movimento Sem Grana"! Just think, with every carjacking and pocket picked the distribution of wealth in Brazil becomes more even. Of course to truly carry out "social justice", you could start lining up property owners in front of a firing squad for contributing to the evil Capitalist Empire.
Don't be fooled!

To those who would have Alckmin be president. I suggest that you all pick up a copy of 'Globalization and its Discontents' by Joseph Stiglitz. Stiglitz served as chief economic adivsor to Clinton's second admin. and I believe also headed the World Bank for a bit. Understand that a guy like Alckmin will slavishly follow what's left of the Washington Consensus. Income gaps will only yawn further between rich and poor. If you know anything about the U.S., you'll notice that our income inequality is increasing rapidly and we are swiftly rolling back to a robber-baron type economy (i.e., no middle class). Check out our stagnant wages, housing costs, edcucation costs, etc. Those who are in love with markets and think that they are infallible fail to realize that markets possess no soul. If you want to live like this have fun and see how far you get unless you were born on third base rounding the bag to score a big run.

Nazis
written by A brazilian, October 18, 2006
There was a long time I didn't come to this site. It certainly improved by requiring information from the people that type in, so the casual Nazi doesn't bother to fill it out in order to leave his hate message. But the "hardcore" Nazis are still here, and so is pile of misinformed and unbacked opinions from a bunch of people with nothing else to do.

The funny thing is these Nazis has this belief that everything good comes from the USA. Bulls**t. The "ch.c" Nazi is the perfect example of idiot. My father works for a Brazilian company that produces certain chemical products, and that region is known as a petro-chemical center for at least 5 decades. It has lots of companies, and many of those companies are brazilian.

Could you just shut the f*** up? You know s**t about Brazil. Seriously, these forums should be moderated. But I guess that way the owner of this site would lose lots of clicks.

written by sertanejo, October 18, 2006
I think that the "ch.c" indicates that the writer is from Switzerland. If so, so much for your "USA=Nazi" rant.

If you want to find some Nazis, I suggest that there might still be a few left alive and hiding out in your part of the world.

You Brazos whine about a few gringos telling the truth as they see it!
But I have been n some Brazilian boards recently where the topic was about
the U.S. I have never in my life seen so much HATRED displayed toward the
U.S. from any nation or group in my life than from Brazos, Even the Taliban
and Al qaeda have more respect for the U.S. than you Brazos..You are a real shame in the way you act and are full of hatred that you direct toward the U.S.
And as we all know most of you have only visited Disney Land....
I should copy and paste the stuff I have read recently from these groups, then you really would be embarrassed! Of course Cara de Pau, is the face of Brazilians in General, uneducated, under experienced swine. Stay on Orkut with all the rest of the whiners.................
No need to buy a book on Brazil !
written by ch.c., October 18, 2006
They read just 1,8 book per year...as per an article that appeared in this site a while ago !
I said...read....not necessarily.... buy !

As to the Brazilian s**t, everyone could or should only read Brazilian Newspaper or News sites.
Better yet, you can even see it......from Brazilian TVs !
Just click on the hundreds of short videos available, free of charge, at O'Globo.com !
These are Brazilian sources not foreign because had they been foreign you would have accused and criticized them !

See your own mess, filmed by Brazilians reporters, and if you disagree....just complain to those who did the reporting.
Fortunately the smells are not included !

So shameful that I start to understand why Brazilians prefer to watch the TV soap operas, instead of watching the TV news !

written by thetruth., October 19, 2006
As to the Brazilian incomes, mentionned in one post, dont just look at the latest 2 or 3 years in Brazil.

Sadly for you, you just got back recently to your purchasing power of 1980 !!!!!
Yessss !

What next ?

Just look at the depreciations of your currencies in the last 60 years.
You had no less than 8 times changed your currency name since 1942 !
In those 8 times, 4 or 5 times you dropped 3 zeros to the new currency
And the last time, with the real in 1994, you divided your new currency by a 2,75

Finally even today the Reais, despite the recent strength, is worth HALF from when it was issued in 1994 !!!!!

Curious how Brazilians have a short memory....on purpose !

Are they the ones the world should take as an example.for corruption, crimes, insecurity, doing business, wealth inequality, injustice, impunity, poverty, economic growth, infrastructure, lack of basic and even higher education.......just to name a few ?

Why dont Brazilians look at their own ratings and rankings but want to give lessons of how things should be done ?

Brazil is simply an archaïc and medieval country ! Nothing else than a Tropical mess....wether it pleases you or not !

Misinformation
written by A brazilian, October 19, 2006
These user messages are nothing but misinformation from people that probably never set foot in Brazil. My advice is that you clean up the mess in your own country (and in the places where the US causes mass murder and torture as well) before speaking of Brazil.

You are so stupid you don't even realize. You should do more of what you are talking about, i.e., READ, but not Nazi sites like this one.
Cara de Pau #2
written by what a shame, October 19, 2006
To add to my prior post. I am appalled at the amount of hatred that is hidden behind the faces of most Brazilians, even considering they are predominantly Catholic. but then again I understand you got to vent somehow somewhere and
why not vent on the U.S. the rest of the world is! Kind of empowers you to vent more since everyone else is. But hey as a Brazilian citizen lets face it, you are not empowered by your government, you are forced to vote on the same corrupt leaders over and over also. Not being empowered is a form of silent slavery, lets face it in truth most Brazilians will complain about the same things the gringos do!! And why not curruption, anarchy, lawlessness, lack of empowerment is self evident and first affects the Brazilian before it does the foreigner. What a pity when you have no hope or power to improve your homeland. Hey, go ahead and be hatefully, bash the U.S. because we are here for you to be bashed on. But in the future if the U.S. gets destroyed many will weep, but if Brazil gets destroyed who will notice?
TO : A Brazilian !
written by thetruth., October 19, 2006
Why dont you look at your own country medias...such as O'Globo.com, free of charge ?
Stop watching your TV soap operas, poverty abound in ALL Brazilian regions....even in SP and Rio !
Rio alone has well over 600 favelas ! Correct or just an imagination of foreigners who know nothing about Brazil ?

And reading or listening to what your government says is simply worthless because full of lies !
You better read the stats from your own IBGE, or your ratings and rankings from Brazilian sources or International agencies !

Curiously none agree with your government statement !

As an example just go to today's news on this site, showing clearly that despite 10 cuts in interest rates in 1 year....your economy did not grow so much. And that despite all these interests cuts, Brazil still has the world highest interest rate after inflation.
After inflation your rates are still 9,3 % TODAY, the second worst being Turkey at 6,2 % !

Truly uniq
oops....
written by thetruth., October 19, 2006
Truly unique interests rate...that are not helping You the citizens.
You really beat every one...since you are the Nbr 1....OF THE WORST !
Saying differently....cannot be right....by definition !
No one can say that the student with the worst note in a classroom....IS THE BEST.....by simple definition !

Therefore constantly defending your bad policies will bring you nowhere....or more precisely......keep you at the bottom of
the economic growth rate of ALL developing nations !

Contrary to your imagination, this is fact, not supposition or lies as you constantly provide !
Facts agreed by Brazilian stats sources !

Brazilians open your mind!!!
written by Adriana, October 19, 2006
Hi everyone.
I believe is the job of every human being make an assessment on their views and perceptions concerning other cultures. So that people don't get stuck in time , or be consumed by rage. When I read Mr. Stedile's article I felt a bit uncomfortable. His article is not only offensive to Americans, but to myself ( not that I lost my Brazilian identity, after living in the U.S. for eight years.) It is offensive to me, when it directs towards the people who have been so friendly and supportive to me,and the culture that have important values I learned to share (rather you like these values or not.) Mr. Stedile calls the U.S. an "empire" tell me only one colony the U.S had or has, give some facts, please. Do you want to do a land reform or revolution? Why do you want to attack agrobusiness, if agrobusiness adds to the Brazilian GDP? I don't get it. BTW I am not from the upper class, I have been strugling all these years to make my way to an American university. My advise for Brazilians is go to live in another culture, it opens your mind a lot.
Thanks for reading this.

Tupiniquins and Cherokees Unite...No more cowboys!!!
written by Donald, October 19, 2006
The moment WE realize that OUR problems are spiritual... WE then will realize how rich WE are. The real natives of these Americas were and still are the indians,...the Tupiniquins and Pataxos, the Siouxs and the Cherokees, and they are absolutely right ...still, after all these centuries, that no action should be approved and acted upon if the outcome is not good for the next 7 generations(These individual Nations could be compared to Japan or Sweden in their thought process of building a sustainable society). Unfortunately , rascism still exists in the hearts of many, and, as I call the U.S.A. these " Disunited States of America", Mr. Gore Vidal calls it the "United States of Amnesia", because it's sad how easily one forgets about history, or worse yet, never really learned it to even learn to respect it. The Florida ballots can show the amount of corruption the American people are going through... a scheme ploted by "daddy" Bush while he was C.I.A. director prior to serving as V.P. to an already compromized Ahlzheimer's Ronnie Reagan...and another 25 years have elapsed, not to mention Che Guevara's assassination 40 years ago, just so Nixon could set the "WAR ON DRUGS", and zillions of tax-dollars later, we've created a country of drug-addicts and slow thinking zombies ( unless those who are on "speed" or "Starbucks" coffee). The talk about corruption in Brazil is NOTHING in comparison to Mr. Bush's embezzleing of the American people, and while the great American middle-class has worsened its position in the last 5 years, I must say that I heard from the poor of the poor people of Brazil that they feel their condition has improved in the last 5 years...and, THAT is a feat in itself!! While one president is street-wise and has balls to go all the way, the other one (who went to YALE) was still learning how to read with 1st-graders, while the WTC was being smashed by his "enemies". One cannot forget history, and I don't mean brain-washing CNN "news",...I mean as the Confederates wanted to move down to Brazil, Americana et al.in the mid-1860's, the Jewish community of Olinda, Pernambuco, moved to New Holland, nowadays vulgarly known as Wall Street, after being forced to flee from the Dutch colony in Brazil and being disbamdled by the Portuguese and their Inquisition. What a stupid mistake in the name of religion, but one has to live with their mistakes and hopefully learn from them ...The Dutch were, and still are so ahead of the game ( example that they've legalized their drugs,...for like the "prohibited-fruit", if you can eat it, then it doesn't taste as good! Imagine how much they've saved in lives, money, energy, prevention and so on.). Yes, mistakes are made, ...but a sign of insanity is trying to keep on doing the same thing over and over and over...and expecting different results. I am not catholic, but I love its dramatic appeal...and that's why the C.I.A. also killed JFK, a catholic himself, because Brazil was booming naturally and in great proportions, but one has to ponder that America never truly liked competition (even though it is what propels it). America needed to invent a new war to sustain its economy and, most importantly, cut out the competition. Finally, brazilians, will wake up and put in their history books that "The Revolution of 1964" was really just another "coup-d'Etat"performed and plotted by C.I.A.'s meddling, and please remember that "Rede Globo de Televisao" was America's biggest ally in controlling the masses with their "soap-operas"...so we could buy, buy, buy! But...Brazilians ARE STILL happy people, because they haven't sold their souls for material and illusionary conforts..the stakes are now too high for the confort-zone not to be compromised.
It seems the indians were right all along...and they must be tired of all of our bickering. So...hush and be grateful, remembering that "Thanksgiving Day" is really an Indian celebration... in fact, in Brazil they celebrate it everyday!
Americans open your mind!!!

The John Wayne Syndrome:

Americans naïvely patronizing and/or criticizing other customs.

Demanding to find America everywhere they go, insisting on orange juice and eggs (sunny-side up) for breakfast, English menus and white socks with sandals.

Invading other country while making no effort to communicate with the natives, traveling in packs while talking in a condescending manner.

Always thinking the rest of the world is ganging up on us (i.e. outvoted 172 to 2 in the United Nations).

Last but not least, the proverbial overseas American question "how much is that in real money?"

The cowboy persona is not only alive and well, but getting bigger and uglier. Anti-American sentiments around the world points, in part, to the American personality. The world public opinion do not just dislike American foreign policy; they dislike Americans.

Give Americans enough rope and they will hang themselves. The US ship is sinking fast. All one has to do is to sit and watch the despicable bullies fight all the way to the bottom.

Peace

At least you can buy a piece of land, set up an automatic debit for the property taxes, call a lawn service to keep it mowed, pay them with a credit card, come back years later and it will be just like you left it. I have seen it first hand: Work a good chunk of your life in Brazil to get a piece of land and have it STOLEN while the authorities give the thieves a smiling nod of approval. TRY DEFENDING THIS YOU BRAZIL DEFENDERS! Anyone who can legally leave Brazil SHOULD leave Brazil. It is NOT a nation for honest people who play by the rules.

Recently I went to Buenos Aires and what did I find 95% of the tourist were from Brazil. Furthermore as I encountered them everywhere I went in
the city they were: Naively patronizing and/or criticizing Argentinians. Invading other country while making no effort to communicate with the natives, traveling in packs while talking in a condescending manner
on and on...
Go to New York the Brazilians live in packs there too!

The only pack of Americans you will find here are those who are on vacation,
overpaying for excursions in Rio.

Many Brazilians that I have spoken to who travel, the first thing they say is I am glad to be back to Brazil so I can eat beans and rice again!! Most all other countries do not eat 1/3 of a plate beans and rice twice a day.

Imagine how Americans are used to eating bacon and eggs, rather than fruit
and a ham and cheese sandwich for breakfast.
In fact in some Brazilian hotels that I have been to where they serve bacon and eggs I noticed how fanatically Brazilians load up there breakfast plate with enormous amounts of bacon

My Brazilian visa card charged me in dollars for all my purchases in Argentina in pesos. Most major appliances and electronics in Uruguay are quoted in U.S.D.
on and on...It is real money compared to the peso, real etc.

Once in awhile I encounter some loud mouth Americans in Latin America, but everywhere I go in the world I always encounter groups of highly noisy Brazilians. " Brazilians are famous for this in other countries.

Just to add I have been to more than 50+ Brazilian cities where I have learned much about Brazilian history. In 90% of my conversations, Brazilians are astounded
how I know much more Brazilian history than they do. Frankly it is sad BRAZILIANS do not know anything for the most part about Brazil and in fact even less about the U.S. or other countries.

Turn off Faustão for awhile and leave the farm!

Last week The Washington Times launched Operation SAVE BRITAIN to help readers have a say in the UK election by writing to undecided voters in marginal constituencies in England.

As a member of a country with a proper democracy, apart from a lamentable failure to introduce a proportional representation system, I think Americans ought to sort their own elections out first. Keep out of UK politics and stop the Bus**tler. Remember the war in Iraq was illegal and you are a pariah state. No wonder North Korea and Iran want nuclear weapons, with your arrogant attempts to establish a global hegenomy.

Have you not noticed that the British don't give two s**ts what Americans think of us? Consider this: stay out of British electoral politics or any other nation for that matter. Unless you would like a company of football hooligans to descend upon the offices of The Washington Times, bag the lot of you, and transport you to the Pitcairn Islands, where you will be at the mercy of the local sex gang. Americans are arrogant and rude!
written by Manfreid, October 19, 2006
I totally agree with the above post.

As a German, I am somewhat offended by the continual arrogant attitude of Americans toward the rest of the world. It's strange that a country with a higher infant mortality rate than Thailand has such an attitude.

First of all, American arrogance is what caused the 9/11 attacks. You Americans were meddling too much with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Finally the oppressed Arabs said "Enough!" and bombed you. And then, after the attacks, you had the guts to deploy forces to Afganistan, angering the Arabs even more! When will you ever learn!!

And boy! Your sorry government services! It's hard to believe that an industrialized country doesn't even provide basic healthcare to it's citizens. Here in Europe, everone is assured excellent healthcare, no matter what their income. We Europeans don't have to worry about our HMO's covering necesarry medical treatments such as colonoscopies. And then your welfare system! In America, your glorious land of plenty, if you can't find a job in two years, then your're out on the streets! In Europe, we take care of our needy. Also, may I add that poverty levels in Europe are much lower than in the U.S.

I hate it when you gas-guzzling SUV driving Americans get so patriotic and belittle us. Europe is far superior to America, whether you like it or not.
Are you an obnoxious American?

Most Americans spent most of their lives in the United States. In fact, most cannot even point on a map where Mexico is located, pathetic.

And yet, seeing the above posts, Americans think of themselves as bonified experts on foreign relations. What a bad joke!

Clean your house first before worrying about someone else’s. Open your mind and realize that most of the negative attributes people associate with Americans is worldwide, in part to the aggressive American foreign policy augmented by the indifference of its people.

That’s my 2 cents.

Now about the Washington Times letter writing campaign. This concept was originally put forward by the Guardian newspaper to try to get people to vote for John Kerry in the 2004 US presidential election. Please see this link for more info:

Actually I think that this type of interference is wrong in both cases, but payback is a bitch, isn't it?

Come on people, let's get real. Every country in the world has good and bad things about it. The only differences are which things and the proportions of good and bad among them.

Communist Rhetoric
written by secgar, October 19, 2006
The original text in this blog is full of blatant emotional rhetoric. I understand the writer's disdain for American arrogance personified by George W. Bush, and am ashamed that the US government has not developed better a chain of political trust with Brazil and other South American countries.

However, the author in question (like many other old-school leftist idealists) fails to recognize that the US organizations (government, business, educational institutes, altruistic non-profit organizations, etc..) have given millions upon millions of dollars to help Brazil in its development. The author's irrational and inflammed accusation of the US (and the its citizens) clearly defines his lack of intelectual reasoning. I am surprized that there are still people out there writing about and believing this kind of "Marxist" dribble.

4. If you have enough money you can be elected to do anything.
5. If you can breath you can get a gun.
6. You can invent a new public holiday every year.
7. You can play golf in the most hideous clothes ever made and nobody seems to care.
8. You get to call everyone you've ever met "Buddy".

Americans are a*****es. Even God knows that Americans are a*****es. Why should anyone be surprised that they elect a*****es on the same evolutionary level they currently subsist on? Most of these a*****es don't even acknowledge evolution, and they use their own idiocy and pathetic belief systems to try to convince the world that they are right. As if that makes any difference!

Americans are whores. They have no souls. They have no blessings. They have no purpose except to keep the various nations miserably but functioning properly, well lubed and looking to make it go down easy. I don't really hate anything or anyone, because that would expend too much of my energy.

Americans, what exactly do you have going for you? Really? Tell me. I really want to know.

There is no point, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Why do you insist on thinking there is? The people you vote for use your futile attempts to express your personal opinion as a mandate for whatever the f**k they want to do. If you vote, you are the problem. Accept that. If you vote, you are responsible for collateral damage. You are a little Eichmann. Maybe even a tiny, whiny Eichmann. And an a*****e, an insignificant a*****e who maybe only paid for the bombs, but an a*****e. And I don't like you. I will never love you!

No doubt, the truth hurts like hell.

Failed American Foreign Policy:
written by Anti-Redneck, October 19, 2006
The American foreign policy is going down in disastrous defeat all over the world. America wants to rule the world but it can’t.

It can’t do it physically since it lacks the raw resources or power.
It can’t do it mentally since it lacks the spirit or will.
It can’t do it morally since it lacks the moral high ground.
It can’t do it financially since it lacks the wealth.
If it keeps on trying to run the world, it can only meet with more defeats than it already is running into.

The myth of America being a superpower that can remake the world is just that, a myth. They will bemoan the toll already paid in blood, as if that were reason to spill even more blood. But the reasons for defeat lie in a basic reality that neoconservative policies failed to reckon with: America cannot run the world. Will Americans ever learn?
American militarism must end or else America will end!

To Manfreid
written by Adriana, October 20, 2006
Manfreid, you said that you are a German. May I ask you something? Which part of German are you from? Because if you are from the West part of germany you should be grateful to the U.S. I do not need to go throught historical details, do I?... Marshall Plan... Does it ring a bell? The fact that the U.S. stayed in the West part of Germany after World War II , and the American "Values" of democracy, freedom... made it possible to your country to find itself again in the world. Also it(Maybe) may have prevented you and your family from being murdered, tortured, or even raped by the "Communists" troops of Stalin.
However, if you are from the East part of Germany, then I can understand the nature of your comment. Quoted from the Germany Magazine Der Spiegel,"Friedrich Ebert Foundation released a study claiming that 6.5 million Germans live in poverty, without much prospect of improving their lot. That's 8 percent of all Germans. Disturbingly, that figure soars to 20 percent in the States that comprised the former East Germany."
You see, former East Germany: Communist rule, dictatory Regime. Just like the one in Cuba, and the one Mr. Stedile wants for Brazil.
Now, I read some comments stated above (not yours though) that the U.S. have Nazis. This "may" be truth, since The U.S. has something called "Freedom of Speech." However, I am sure that the FBI has a close eye on them, and they will never be elected to representative houses.
On the other hand, this statement Is true in Germany. Once again, only in the East part of Germany, where a Nazi political party called NPD got elected, Thanks to the communists "Values." Also quoted from Der Spiegel, " The NPD has also exploited xenophobic attitudes in East, where many blame immigrants for their economic problems. In addition, resistence to the far right isn't as strong in Eastern Germany as in the West because responsability for the Holocaust wasn't addressed as intensely there during the decades of Communist Rule."
I Hope you do not take it personal, it is just facts. that's because I hate when people has narrow views, and make hasty generalizations about culture, any culture. I am living in the U.S.( somehow Brazil could not offer me. And I don't blame my country. On the contrary, I will go back to it some day, and help in anyway I can) and my experiences here are shaping my perception of the U.S. culture. I am not saying it is a perfect culture, but which culture is? In my opinion, nobody is better than the former President Clinton to explain this concept. He gave a speech in Georgetown University called "Securing the Common Good: A vision For America" the transcript of the speech can be found
worth it reading. Just to the information itself, I don't want to convince nobody in here.
And the Clinton foundation website is
Sao Paulo is one of the cities that participates in the "Global Iniciative" in his foundation.
Once again, nobody needs to like him or the U.S. culture to check out these websites. Is just that, I assume any reasonable person who wants to have a reasonable view about anything, needs to see the both sides.
Good luck!!!!!!!!

The Biggest Crime in the World since WWII

Peace
Forgive them for they know not what they say
written by aaarrrggggggg, October 20, 2006
Polo, forgive them. For the most part they’ve been educated since birth on a heavy dose of beans and anti-Americanism. This is not something new, but has been a constant theme running through Latin America since the 19th century. Famous leftists books like Eduardo´s Galeano’s the “the open veins of Latin America” are must reads for those unfortunate enough to attend University in Banana land. This outdated anti-US, anti-imperial diatribe (along with others like Cardoso’s Dependency and Development in Latin América) is still read and worshiped more today in Latin America than the bible is at Sunday school.

The interesting part for me, and there are many, about Latin America’s hatred towards the US is how completely irrational and unhealthy it is. You see from the ramblings of Brazilian posters here that they don’t wish to see the US “correct their ways”, or to “do right thing” (like what any sane thinking individual would want of any nation), what our Latin American Idiots want is the complete and total collapse of the US: a meltdown that hopefully for our banana sucking fool, would unleash a storm of misery for all Americans for generations to come. This is what they wish and hope for.

They don’t understand how interconnected the planet is and that the “collapse of the American Empire” would pull down the rest of the world’s economy along with it.

Another intriguing point about the Anti-American mentality in Banana land is that they whine, wince and endlessly convulse with bile about things that have ZERO impact on the lives of most cachaça swilling simpletons. IRAQ, Afghanistan, illegal combatants, and etc. These issues that seem to get the blood boiling for our Brazilian-bumkins here, and make up the majority of their media’s reporting, have NOTHING TO DO AT ALL WITH BRAZIL. However, issues such as the 55,000 killed in Brazil last year are taboo discussions. Christ, there are two guerilla wars being fought RIGHT NOW in Brazil One in Sao Paulo (by the way the ugliest city in the world) with the PCC, and one in RIO with other drug traffickers. But, it is more important for our Latin American idiot to wage a verbal war on the US and it’s foreign policy in the Middle East, than to take issue with those killing their family and friends in their own backyard. Is this rational?

Corruption is another interesting point of view for the Latin American idiot. Corruption is something that is ONLY allowed in Latin America. When Enron went tits-up, Brazilians were frothing at the mouth, pointing to the US that a corrupt business was allowed to perpetuate such a fraud on the American People. Why they would care so much about Enron was beyond me.

In the End, all have been charged and are being sentence in regards to Enron, (Kenneth Lay is now flower fertilizer). This type of swift justice does not happen in Brazil – and as soon as sentences were being handed down in the ERON case, Brazilians suddenly got very quiet about the issue. Why? Because a corruption scandal in any other nation gives them some form of solace that, yes, corruption is NOT just a Brazilian problem. However, when those involved with corruption scandals around the world are CHARGED, CONVICTED and SENTENCED, Brazilians grow pale. The lesson here is that Yes, Corruption is not a Brazilian invention, but IMPUNITY certainly is. Corruption is also REWARDED in Brazil.

Let’s take a look to PAULO MALUF. Here is a man whose very name is synonymous with corruption. ACTUALLY, there is a new verb in the Brazilian language “MALUFAR”, meaning to “STEAL FROM THE STATE”. Maluf has been robbing Sao Paulo for 35 years and estimates are in the billions in terms of what he has taken. He’s been officially charged 155 times with corruption. So, what did our brilliant population of Brazil (well actually, just the morons of sao Paulo) do with Paulo Maluf two weeks ago? They overwhelmingly voted him in as Federal Deputy! Yes, his punishment for 35 years of public theft was a new term in office. You don’t get any dumber than that. And it was NOT just Maluf, but also Collar, Braga, et.al A list far too long to reproduce here.

So, don’t waste too much time with Brazilians on this board; their posts are the perfect snapshots of our average retarded Latin American Idiot. You will not find a rational discussion here.

Well in a couple of days the Brazilian population is once again forced to go vote Lula back into office, Maluf is on top again as you pointed out, the stars are lining up for another championship year!

In my opinions it is open season on Brazilian hatred for things they have no clue about!
Look at Brazilian history in relation to the world, what have they invented, what sacrifices or contributions have they made willingly for rest of world???
Do a search on google an see, practically nothing!

Brazil's black market has made a big contribution however to Brazil's corrupt, various mafias, cartels, Muslim terrorist organizations etc.

They have an intense hatred for the U.S. because it is totally opposite in principle to Brazil.

Take out of Brazil first all American money, influence, businesses etc. and then see how things change here, then take out all the other countries money, influence, businesses etc. such as Germany, Spain, etc. and whats left, I repeat whats left, again I repeat whats left???

No wonder Americans appear snobbish! There is not much Brazilians contribute to their own society!

Of course they are worried about privatization, because of course foreigners are the only ones capable of paying for and running a successful national or international company.

The Brazilian Govt. is the only one capable of running a national company,
along with a handful of very intelligent Brazilian entrepreneurs!
For the rest of smart Brazilians who could be successful, they cant because of Govt. taxation and bureaucracy!

Since so many Brazilians here are so focused on others' problems and passing judgment, it must mean that they're quite proud of the qualities BRAZIL is most known internationally for...
So for their reading pleasure, I took the liberty of gathering up a list....of qualities shown on this discussion board as on others.

TOP 10 LIST OF THINGS THAT MAKE BRAZILIANS PROUD:

10. SYMPATHY WITH TERRORISM
9, CORRUPTION AND NEPOTISM, INCOMPETENCE
8. ARMED GANG INSURRECTION IN MAJOR CITIES
7. SLUMS/GHETTOS/FAVELAS
6. IGNORANCE AND CULTURAL INTOLERANCE AS TOUGHT EVEN IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
5. POLITICAL ISOLATION AND MASS PARANOIA
4. IMMENSE POVERTY LEVELS, CRIME, DRUGS, A.I.D.S., EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN
3. INFLATION, HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT
2. CLASS WARFARE, DIVISION
1. AND NOW...HUGO CHAVEZ, AND HE'S NOT EVEN THEIRS!!!

I couldn't even fit on the list the raping of the forests and lands into extinction; forced takeovers of private lands by peasants and squatters and the rampant violence that ensues because of the lack of respect for law and order - which in itself is absent is most of that country. Nice.
And THEY'RE preaching to the world?

So, how the futbol going anyway? [LOL]
