UN Environment Effort to Involve 10 Million Brazilians

The preparation for Brazil’s II National Youth Conference on Environment starts next June 5th, the World Environment Day. The Conference, an initiative of the Ministries of Education (MEC) and of Environment (MMA), will occur in December.

The MEC’s Secretary of Continuing Education, Alphabetization, and Diversity, Ricardo Henriques, said that this process will gather 20,000 Brazilian schools from June to September.

Approximately 10 million people, among teachers, students, parents, school employees, and community members will participate on discussions about environmental education.

Male and female delegates, between 11 and 15 years old, will be selected to participate on the conference.

Both the preparation and the conference itself are part of the United Nations (UN) initiative that established the following 10 years as the “UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014)” in Latin America and the Caribbean.
