Brazil immersion

With more than 20 events, including music, dance, film and visual art,
Tigertail Productions is bringing to Miami version number two of its New
Vision Florida/Brazil: A Festival and Exchange. The events will take place
over a two-week period this November. It all starts November 8 at the Cosford
Theater (University of Miami) with the world premiere of “The Demons’
Meeting,” a feature film by A.S. Cecílio Neto, who will
be in attendance.

The story about the dreams of three children of the 60s will be rerun
on the 9th and the 10th. The art exhibition opens November 9 at the Ground
Level Gallery and will continue through the 21st of December. There will

Spreading the sounds

Bossa Magazine, a Boston-based publication dealing with Brazilian
Music, is being distributed now by Tower Records in all of its outlets
throughout de US. Bossa should be available at the World Music CD
section. The monthly magazine claims to have a readership of 20,000 in
the US and fifteen other countries. The Tower deal will give the publication
an exposure boost. According to its publisher Marlon Catão.
“Opening up this important retail channel will ensure that Bossa reaches
an even more varied audience throughout the world.” If you want to

Planet Brazil

Culture Planet has just opened its doors. The store’s intention is to
bring to the US a wide selection of Brazilian and international folk art,
clothing, masks and Amazonian tribal artifacts. Among other treasures there
is a collection of headdresses and masks from several tribes in the Amazon,
ceramic figurines from Caruaru (state of Pernambuco), and handmade musical
instruments. Several Brazil and Amazon-related exhibits are planned for
the coming months. Culture Planet is the brainchild of Mônica
Ferreira
, a Carioca (from Rio). The store is located in West

Beauty search

Several states are still choosing their candidates for the ’96 Miss
Brazil-USA. The final competition will be November 16 in Miami with prizes
worth more than $50,000. In California, three contestants representing
Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego will be selected on November 10
at the new Coconut Grove. The competition party being sponsored by Rio
Roma Travel will have live entertainment and dancing. For more information
